We also own and manage the fibreoptic connection between mainland Norway and Svalbard, essential for Norwegian activities in the region.
In recent years, Space Norway has significantly increased its activity level, driven by the acquisition of Telenor Satellite and the implementation of several key space programs and projects.
Although Space Norway is state-owned, it operates on commercial terms without receiving subsidies or operational funds from the state budget. The Norwegian government’s objective as an owner is to secure the highest possible return over time within sustainable frameworks.

Space Norway is Northern Europe’s leading provider of satellite communication services, committed to managing and enhancing critical space infrastructure for Norwegian societal needs.
Our services enable seamless communication for Arctic maritime navigation, support remote North Sea oil exploration and production, and ensure connectivity for emergency response teams during crises.
Additionally, we support scientific research and environmental monitoring by providing reliable data transmission for research stations and monitoring systems across Norway and its territories. By advancing our satellite infrastructure and investing in new projects, we ensure our clients have high-quality, reliable communication services essential for their operations.
Defence sector
As a state-owned enterprise, Space Norway manages and develops critical space infrastructure for Norwegian societal needs. We work closely with defence authorities to provide satellite communication services that support military operations, from routine communications to critical missions.
Our initiatives focus on developing secure technologies, ensuring the Norwegian Armed Forces have reliable communication channels. This includes deploying advanced satellites and maintaining existing infrastructure to meet evolving security needs.
Additionally, we operate fibreoptic subsea cables for the Armed Forces and the communities of Svalbard, providing a secure and resilient communication link for both military and civil operations.
