Space Norway AS has awarded Seaworks Kabel AS the contract to install a subsea fibre-optic cable between Bodø and Fauske. The cable, which is being produced locally in Rognan, will be collected there and installed along the Bodø–Fauske route by Seaworks Kabel AS. The objective is to complete the installation by the end of 2026 or in the first quarter of 2027.

14 January 2026 – The new fibre connection will strengthen the digital infrastructure in Nordland. This fibre link forms part of Arctic Way, the world’s northernmost subsea fibre-optic cable network, which connects mainland Norway with Svalbard and Jan Mayen.

-Seaworks is an excellent choice for subsea fibre cable installation in the Salten Fjord, with its extensive experience from similar projects. Since 2003, Space Norway has used Seaworks as a subcontractor for inspection and maintenance of parts of the existing Svalbard cables. Based on many years of successful cooperation, we are confident in our choice of Seaworks to deliver this project,” says Pia Birgitte Bruhn, Project Manager for Arctic Way at Space Norway AS.

The subsea fibre cable will provide a foundation for robust solutions benefiting both businesses and the public sector, locally and nationally.

“Seaworks Kabel is proud of the confidence Space Norway has shown in us. We are pleased that our long-standing collaboration is being continued,” says Stian Hokland, Head of department Fibre, Seaworks Kabel AS.

The project represents an important step towards securing robust, future-proof digital infrastructure in Northern Norway. Through this delivery, Space Norway AS and Seaworks Kabel AS are helping to build a platform for future growth and innovation in the region, while also highlighting the importance of Norwegian expertise and technology in global communications solutions.
